I’m not sure if this is just a publicity stunt, or some deeper social statement…either way, it makes for a provocative photo.

Embracing Imperfection

Columnist Heidi Davoren is sick and tired of how the female breast is depicted in media.

Much pressure is placed on women to bounce back after pregnancy, but the reality is there’s very little bounce left. Despite what celebrity mums might tout about how they achieved their amazing shape two weeks after delivery, the fact is it’s physically impossible.

It’s about time we put a stop to unrealistic expectations and just got real. This week I am embracing imperfection.

The constant parade in magazines, television programs and movies of pumped-up, gravity-defying, perfectly shaped female breasts has set a standard in the mind’s eye of some sort of unattainable ideal that has nothing to do with how people really look.

If you are not a nudist or naturist and have gotten your perception of female breasts from Playboy magazine and pornography films, click here to see a gallery of non-sexual normal breasts.

Whenever a woman practices topfreedom, someone always makes the argument that the sight will be somehow harmful to children. In fact, the opposite is true – children are being harmed by being denied access to the sight of normal, nude human bodies.

100 Nude Activists Protest Canadian Seal Hunt in Spain

16 03 2009

Spanish animal rights group EquAnimal takes the prize for the most epic protest for the International Day of Action Against the Canadian Seal Hunt with about 100 activists stripping nude for the cause.

The sprawling mass of  nude painted-red bodies seemed to cause quite a stir in Madrid yesterday. While the effectiveness of nude protests is always arguable, the Spanish media has covered the story extensively today, with some outlets even including footage of seal hunting along with their coverage of the protest.

The action seemed to be less ridiculous than the typical nude protest that we’re used to in America; instead of a couple model-thin women, EquAnimal had hundreds of men and women of all shapes and sizes participating.

If you want to help out with the day of action, it’s not too late (and no nudity is required). Four of the five ways to participate are still easy to do after the date.

WNBR – Trail Blazer: Biking in Your Birthday Suit

Trail Blazer: Biking in Your Birthday Suit

IRKED BY THOSE FREAKISH half-hamstring tan lines from your spandex shorts? Here’s a thought: Don’t wear ‘em! Head to the Vermont Avenue side of McPherson Square this Saturday at 4 p.m. to participate in the third annual World Naked Bike Ride (Wnbr-dc.org). The event is part of a worldwide, grassroots movement (Worldnakedbikeride.org) that aims to draw attention to oil dependency. It’s no coincidence that the mile -long loop pedals by the Capitol and the White House.

D.C. event organizer Roger (who asked that his last name be withheld) anticipates 100 riders this year, ages 20 to 60. Despite the ride’s moniker, Roger doesn’t advise going with the full monty. “I’m not in the stage of my life where I really want to chance going to jail,” says the 52-year-old, acknowledging buff biking may get one arrested for public exposure. His choice? “I wore a tiny sack,” he says. He says as long as a person’s privates are kept private, one isn’t considered naked. (But even with a sock or thong covering one’s itty bits, the momentum from pedaling might reveal your illegal yoo-hoo.) Of the 20 riders who attended last year, half wore shorts and shirts, while others opted for Speedos and thongs. Isn’t that a bum bruiser? “Unless you have a really tender bottom,” Roger says, “it won’t be a problem.”

Too modest for that? Try the Arlington and Alexandria Community Bike Ride (8 a.m., Waba.org) in Crystal City. And you needn’t bare your booty.
