AANR-West 55th Convention GAT News

De Anza Springs Resort in Jacumba , California , hosted the AANR-West Convention for 2008.  Dave and Helen Landman along with the De Anza staff did an excellent job of making the annual convention fun and informative.

Don Gravalec of De Anza Springs Resort was elected as an AANR-West Director.  Don has also accepted the appointment by President Jeannette DeRosier as your new AANR-West Government Affairs Chair.  Remarkably, Don is an Attorney at Law in the state of California and is known as the “Nudist Lawyer.” If you would like to contact Don to congratulate him, e-mail Don at Gravalec@Lawyer.com

AANR 77th Convention Highlights

Turtle Lake Resort in Union City , Michigan , hosted the AANR Convention in 2008.  Mark and Karri Hammond and their entire staff are to be congratulated for the awesome week of hospitality; along with the Turtle Lake members, we met a lot of new friends and enjoyed the creative festivities all week long.

Several Government Affairs Team members were recipients of AANR awards, while others were nominated for awards.  We will hold off mentioning the award winners until they have formally received their awards.  The Nudist Bill of Rights was presented at the convention and generally was well accepted.  We will be looking for member feedback when we print the proposed Nudist Bill of Rights in the October issue of The Bulletin.

The Government Affairs Auction was a huge success.  Thanks to the generosity of our clubs and members, over 100 auction items were displayed and bid upon.  After the frenzy of bidding was over, along with a couple of individual donations… $9,372 was raised for the Bob Page Legal Defense Fund.  We salute Midwest GA Chair Dave Graber and his wife Jean for the hours they spent pulling this critical event together!  Dave, you were an awesome AANR Auction Chair. THANK YOU!

California’s Effort to Save Our Beaches!

At the AANR-West Convention, Ricc Bieber, member of Southern California Naturist Association (SCNA), approached me requesting a donation to the Naturist Action Committee (NAC) on behalf of his club.  This donation was to be used to fund the efforts underway to revoke the decision to close San Onofre State Beach Trail 6 to nude recreation on September 1, 2008.

In General Assembly, I placed a motion to donate $1,500 before the delegation.  The delegation representing clubs and members decided the amount was not enough.  Three fourths of those attending had been to San Onofre.  The motion was passed unanimously, and AANR-West signed a check for $3,000 payable to NAC.  An additional $300 was donated by individual clubs and members.  Communication between AANR and NAC continues in our efforts to save San Onofre State Beach.

AANR-West continues to raise money for preserving nude recreation on public lands; our current focus is on San Onofre State Beach.  See the attached flyer that has been circulated to all AANR-West clubs to conduct a Root Beer Float Fundraiser on Labor Day or some time in the near future to support these efforts.

AANR works tirelessly to compile these weekly lists and engage volunteers and lobbyists as necessary.  AANR prefers to work quietly with our legislators to prevent future laws that could impact nude recreation, but we are well prepared to engage in other methods of resolution, such as: letter writing campaigns ONLY when necessary.  Always contact the AANR office before taking action.  This ensures that your actions are aligned with the strategy underway for any particular bill.  If you would like to request an updated report of your region or state, please send a request to debra_sue@mindspring.com.
